Mythology & stories

The grieving mother

Searching for her stolen daughter, Demeter disguised herself as an old woman at Eleusis and nursed a royal child, trying to make him immortal in the fire. When she was discovered, she revealed herself and taught her mysteries there. Those rites were kept for nearly two thousand years.
