1. Past

Tap to draw

What has led here — old choices, patterns or events still shaping the situation.

Look for what you have already learned. If the card is heavy, ask what part of it you are still carrying.

Past

2. Present

Tap to draw

Where things genuinely stand today, including what you may be avoiding.

Compare this card with how you feel. A mismatch usually points at the real story.

Present

3. Future

Tap to draw

The likely direction of travel if nothing changes.

Treat this as a forecast, not a fate. Ask what would need to change for a different card to appear here.

Learn to read tarot spreads

Learn how to interpret card positions, connect meanings and build confidence reading a complete spread.

Step 01Ⅰ Ⅱ Ⅲ

Understand the positions

Every position gives a card a particular role. Read what each position represents before interpreting the cards themselves.

Example: Past · Present · Future

Step 02☽ ✧ ☼

Interpret each card

Consider the card's imagery, traditional meanings, orientation and how those ideas relate to its position and your question.

Example: Three of Swords in the Past could suggest an earlier disappointment.

Step 03✦ ⟷ ✦

Connect the story

Look for repeated suits, numbers, themes and contrasts. Consider how the cards influence one another to build a coherent interpretation.

Ask yourself: What changes from the first card to the last?

Common questions

What is a three card tarot spread?
Three cards laid left to right as past, present and future. It is the most popular spread because it shows how a situation is moving rather than freezing it in place.
What is a shadow work tarot spread?
A spread that looks at the parts of yourself you tend to hide: the mask you wear, the trait you suppress, where it began, how it shows up, what it needs and how to integrate it.
Can I make my own spread?
Yes — open the Custom spreads tab, name each position, then lay it out and draw. Save the layout to reuse it whenever that question comes round again.
Can I save my spreads?
Yes — make an account and every spread you lay out can be named and saved to your private My Thyme for Tarot dashboard.
