The descent

Inanna went down to visit her sister Ereshkigal in the underworld. At each of seven gates she gave up a garment or jewel, arriving bare, and was struck dead and hung on a hook. Enki sent helpers to revive her, but she had to send her husband Dumuzi below in her place.
